Relationships, Rules & Responsibilities

Fire Safety for Students Establishing relationships, rules & responsibilities is very important within grade 1. This is the time for students to become aware of rules, take responsibility for themselves and build relationships!

Throughout grade 1 Social Studies students will develop skills and become more self aware. One of the best examples I observed was as a class developing rules the students were going to be responsible for. These charts of responsibilities were established for all events that took place in the school as well as common event the students shared.

Through building these skills students develop awareness for their local community while building a community within the classroom. They are aware that everyone has a role and responsibilities.

A great way to share rules and responsibilities is to have local community members come and speak to the class or take a trip!
This is a perfect time to point out safety issues like fires and talking to strangers. Students will be able to practice what they need to do, when put in a dangerous situation.

Contact your local fire station, police station, post office, medication office today! To arrange for a guest speaker to come speak with your students or children, to explain the importance of these members within our community.
