A great way for students to be confident in their skills is to practice, practice, practice!
Remember working with patterns doesn't have to be all worksheets (like the link below). The grade ones I worked with loved to use manipulates!
Just an idea - For Halloween I used spooky insects that the students could use as manipulatives. We created our own simple patterns and then tried to create complex patterns for our peers to share! Before we ended the lesson we used our bodies (create different actions) and sound effects (e.g., clapping, stomping, snapping, singing) to create more patterns!
Just remember MATH CAN BE FUN!!
